Ways to Improve Posture

You may not realize the drawbacks of poor posture until you start experiencing aches and pains such as back pain and neck pain. While we always maintain improper posture when standing, sleeping, sitting, and walking, you can take steps to improve your posture. We at Lake Marion Chiropractic in St Paul, MN, and Lakeville, MN, understand the importance of correct posture, and that’s why we have taken time to give you some tips on how to improve your posture.

Stretching

How many times do you spend looking at your phone or computer screen? As you tilt your head forward, this puts undue pressure on the neck, causing pain. Besides, slouching in your chair and hunching your shoulders put abnormal stress on the spine and shoulders, resulting in pain.

The good news is that simple stretches can help correct poor posture. Exercises like planks, bridges, and back extensions can help correct slumping posture. Chest stretches and pull-ups can help correct hunched back.

Straighten up

Leaning on one leg and sticking your bottom out are typical examples of poor posture when standing. Want to maintain the correct posture when standing? Straighten up. This not only makes you feel better, but it makes you look better, slimmer if you may. Tuck your chin and hold your head high. Assume you are standing against a vertical wall to measure your height. Keep your knees straight, and don’t stick out your hips or bottom.

Wear Correct Attire

Tight clothes prevent you from maintaining a proper posture. Similarly, high-heeled shoes add undue pressure on your knees and back. Consider comfortable clothing for better posture.

Check Your Weight

High weight is likely to add stress to your back, causing pain. Maintain a healthy weight if you want to maintain a proper posture.

Get Chiropractic Care

While there is a lot you can do to improve your posture, sometimes you need the help of a chiropractor on our team. Chiropractic adjustments may help align your body, helping you assume the correct position when sitting, standing, or lifting weights. Chiropractic treatments may help ease muscle tension and alleviate pain, putting you in a better state to maintain proper posture.
